Dissertation research - Hospital identity - Paz Holandosa

Marjan van mourik was the creator of this hospitals identity.

The purpose of this hospital "improve the conditions of socially and economically disadvantaged Peruvian children by offering free medical care, in the broadest sense of the word."

Paz Holandesa provides medical care as well as psychological support and speech therapy.

The hospital's identity includes a wide range including wall decals, stationery, wayfinding, infographics, colouring books, plates etc.

The starting point for the identity was dedicated to Tony Rojas Molleapaze. The design of the characters was created to evoke hope and strength. The bold solid characters and the flower imagery is used as a metaphor for growth which is the basis for the identity.

The characters were also made to be intractable, each of the characters was based on the different staff roles, each staff member wore clothing that had the characters on it for the children to recognise when they interacted with them. However, this wasn't a popular idea when it was pitched as it wasn't a traditional system.

Children responded positively to the interactivity of the characters. Thia is interesting to take note of in understanding what children react to positively, researching the extent of the identity of this hospital of this would also be interesting to explore.

There are also preventative measures which the hospital chooses to take through this design such as encouraging children to take care of their teeth.

This hospitals design is significant to acknowledge due to the extra mile in which it has explored the outcomes to make a medical environment less daunting and more inviting, showing that design can be a way of improving children's well-being. To take note of the change that this hospital has made within their approach will be extremely beneficial towards further understanding how children can be effected in a positive way within an environment and using graphic design.
