Nick Deakin - Sheffield children hospital design
The work was commissioned by Artfelt with the idea behind this work was to make treatment rooms brighter and make the experience less daunting for children when visiting the eye department.
The murals were installed in 14 departments around the eye department itself each with a different theme such as space, or the beach.
There are also designs on the ceilings for patients to look at while they are in an examination.
interchangeable designs printed onto acetate in front of light boxes resembling 'snellen' charts used in eye examinations. Making the appearance of this less intimidating to patients in the waiting areas.
Most notably Deakin's designs were created in mind of appealing to both adults and children, keeping things simple but also with meaning behind the designs.
Creating designs that were simple in the design made them adaptable to other themes and subjects.
