Interactivity in print - Books

Following the crit practical, researching the ways print can be effective in order to save costs and be effective in aesthetic and function. 

Practical outcome ideas

The aim of the work is to be effective for its audience, easy to understand, and is low cost in its production in order for it to be the most accessible for a large audience.


Two mediums being combined on separate platforms and being utilised together. 


Looking at designs that are interactive for a young audience. 


How they can be used an effective way to either entertain or educate. 


How far can the boundaries of print be pushed in being interactive?

Exploring the ways children can be interacted with in the form of print. 

"Press Here" is a book that is interactive while being simple in its application only using shapes and primary colours to be effective which is noteworthy to consider when considering an outcome which has to fit all the previously stated considerations such as cost, appearance and consideration of age.





"There you go! That's perfect, now clap your hands once" 


"Hmm interesting, try pressing down really hard" 

Giving physical action allows more imagination within work. 


Giving a physical motive within the pages but with just dots as imagery is proven to be effective showing that minimal visuals can be effective for children. 

Using this same idea could be a valid response to engage and comfort children within an environment within the printed material.

Although this one differs from being active within motions it is active within visual observation.

Using shapes in order to achieve individuality in work. Also learning about mistakes and visuals don't have to be perfect. It encourages a new perspective on creativity and a new way of looking at shapes, it is mind opening in this way and an effective and interesting way of 




Eye Spy 

There weren't any books which explored an environment within print except for eye-spy series of books, although they are relevant to explore they are also 

These books were created to interact with different locations, creating a game in the way we travel, especially with road transport and a long journey.

By being able to look at the content of this book in detail revealed the ways in which nature can be interacted with within print. 

The audience for this content is not just for young children but can also be used for older children.
